Which Sheets Are Right For You?

FIND THE BEST FABRIC YOUR NEEDS

Think about your sheets for a second. Do you know what type of fabric they are?
Do you like the way your sheets feel? Are you someone who sleeps hot or who likes to be cool at night?

There are many of differences in the fabrics commonly found in sheets; the weight, the level of softness, some retain much more heat than others, etc. It’s all about finding what works best for you.

We spend nearly a third of our life in bed – that’s a lot of time! It’s essential to have a sleep environment that works for you, considering how important good sleep is for our bodies. The temperature of your bedroom can make a significant difference to your sleep quality. A National Sleep Foundation poll found that cool room temperature was one of the most important factors in getting a good night’s sleep, with as many as four out of five respondents saying this was important to them.

Breathable sheets are the perfect way to stay cool and comfortable throughout the night and avoid overheating at night. Or if you prefer to keep extra warm, other fabrics would potentially suit your preference.

Let’s dive into the different types of fabric for your bedding sheets!

Egyptian Cotton
Egyptian cotton sheets are the highest quality cotton available for sheets and can be extravagantly expensive, even into the thousands. Egyptian cotton sheets are usually made with an extra-long staple. These sheets are known for their softness versus breathability (aka staying cool at night). If you are looking for a thicker sheet with softness and durability, Egyptian Cotton is the way to go.

Silk
Silk is a luxurious bedding material produced by silkworms. Silk is cool to the touch and a smooth, sleek feel that you glide over. Silk is excellent for your skin, particularly your face and hair, since it doesn’t tug or create wrinkles.

As incredible as silk sheets feel, they’re often expensive and delicate, making them hard to maintain. While you might love the luxurious feel, remember silk sheets are an investment and require additional maintenance.

Bamboo
If you want to sleep cooler at night with a warm but breathable fabric, think about investing in 100% bamboo viscose sheets. Bamboo is the best fabric for a cool sleep. It is also one of the optimal materials for a comfortable rest, checking off many “must-have” boxes for sheets. In addition to the cooling & breathable factors, it is very soft (and sometimes silky with the higher thread counts), eco-friendly, fairly easy to launder, and is naturally moisture-wicking to keep you dry. These sheets are also affordable by comparison to Egyptian cotton sheets.

Bamboo bedding can be used year-round in all types of climates. The temperature regulating qualities ensure that you are always comfortable while catching those zzz’s.

Flannel
Flannel cotton sheets are constructed with a plain or twill weave and slightly thicker than regular cotton sheets, making them softer and more pliable than many other weave options to make you feel warm and toasty.

Flannel sheets are perfect for the cooler months of the year or if you live in a colder climate and need to feel warmer at night. They are generally not preferred for summer or warmer climates.

Standard Cotton
Cotton sheets are the most common because they don’t sleep too hot, are easy to mass-produce, and they’re incredibly affordable. Cotton sheets are a thinner material and can offer some breathability.

This type of fabric is American cotton. Staple cotton is rougher than the costly cotton sheets you’ll find but also the most common. If you want sheets that are affordable and durable, cotton might be the right choice. Unfortunately, cotton sheets don’t offer that luxurious feel, unlike Egyptian or bamboo sheets. Those that like a “crisp” and not too soft feeling in their sheets generally prefer cotton.

It’s time to decide if you need to update your sheets. You want to get the best sleep possible every night, so you wake up ready for the day. Whether you are looking for simple & affordable sheets, luxurious sheets, cooler sheets, soft or warm, you have plenty of options to pick from.
