Read. Sleep. Repeat.

We all know sleep is extremely important but unfortunately, it’s a part of our daily lives we often don’t prioritize.

With the challenges and strain on health and wellness that came with 2020 as well as the holiday season, now more than ever, we could all use some extra rest. We want to gift YOU with great sleep this year with ideas on how to create an ideal sleep set up to promote better sleep.

Here are some recommendations on how to improve your overall sleep quality and be on your way to some better zzz’s!

Turn Off All Devices At Night

It’s been proven that even the mere presence of a device or phone can be distracting, especially before bed. Part of falling asleep is the ability to quiet our minds. Turning off all devices and potential sounds will help. Keeping our phones nearby can still cause intrusive thoughts and anxiety, so keeping them at a distance is best for a restful night’s sleep.

We recommend turning off your devices an hour before bed. Try to read a book (not the latest news posts) or meditate to put your mind at ease and be ready for a good night's rest.

We all know meditation and mindfulness are good for us -- but why do we have to resist it? Meditation sometimes feels like a time-consuming activity and although it's been proven to help us with stress and can promote better sleep, we often dismiss it. But it can make significant changes in our sleep. Trying stretching or meditating before bed. We recommend just starting with 5 minutes, 5 times a week and increasing as you can. It’s all about consistency and why we recommend starting small but regularly.

Weighted Blanket

These blankets are heavier than regular blankets in order to promote calmness and restfulness to help people when falling asleep. The light pressure feels like a hug and can help alleviate intrusive thoughts to help you fall asleep faster with less sleep disruption.

Essential Oil Diffuser

Essential oils can make a huge difference in your sleep experience. Certain scents can import or alter your mood. Especially for sleep, lavender has been proven to be effective. Consider using a small diffuser near your bed to help promote calmness while you fall asleep.

The ‘Right’ Pillow

Did you know a pillow can completely change the way you sleep at night? Pillows offer staple support for your neck to be aligned with your spine, relieving you of tension and back pains. Having a pillow you don’t have to adjust to but adjusts to you, is crucial.

It's important to have a pillow that conforms to your neck to promote quality sleep. Using a pillow configured with the right height and level of support for you and your sleep position will be the best option for optimal sleep. At Luxome, our Layr Customizable Pillow provides unlimited customization as well as a bamboo cover for extra cooling features for an even better sleep.

Sound Machine

Some of us (*hand raise*) have trouble sleeping in total silence. It can create anxiety from overthinking. One way to relieve yourself from a racing brain and help you fall asleep faster is by using a fan or sound machine. They’ve drastically advanced devices over the years, giving plenty of options of calm, soothing sounds to help put you to bed.

Cool Bedding

Do you know most people sleep hot? Particularly if they use a foam mattress since it can trap heat more easily. When our bodies get too warm while sleeping, it can cause restlessness and waking throughout the night to adjust and get comfortable again. Having cool, breathable bedding is the perfect way to stay cool and consistent throughout the night and avoid overheating. Bamboo is one of the optimal materials for cool sleep and it's naturally moisture-wicking properties help eliminate over-heating and sweating. Quality 100% Bamboo Viscose Sheets are a must-have essential for your sleep comfort.

The best gift you can give yourself this year is to have quality sleep every night and wake up feeling refreshed. That’s what matters, right? Sleep can change our whole day! With these tips, hopefully you can get the solid rest you deserve.
